Once Upon a Time, Marrakech: the city of Seven Saints...

How could  something emerge from nothing? Even the tiniest  heritage  would  certainly  arise from societies  knowledge  and thoughts. Similarly, myths have undoubtedly  an historical origine and reflect the full or the partial  truth. Marrakech is  so well endowed with myths and folktales that these are directly associated   with its name: many  refer to it as the city of seven saints as it is home to the tombs of  seven brilliant scholars  and  Sidi Bel Abbas is often said to be the patron saint.
Built in the Saadian  era, the mythologic  ''Sidi Bel Abbas'' sanctuary contains  the tomb of  Bel Abbas(1130-1205) . It was believed that he had different  strengths such as healing diseases.  The most notorious taile  about the holy man miracles,  was the mysterious  transformation  of the calumnious letter  sent by his opponents  to the Sultan  to disgrace him, to an appraisal and glorification words . Other stories reported that Sidi Bel Abbas is one of the spiritual guardians  of the city.

Bel Abbas , pledged  his wealth to charitable causes either during   his life  or in his will: currently, his  sanctuary  is a large complex composed of Madrassa (school),  a hospital, a blind asylum , a homeless shelter and many others educational facilities.

The most revered pilgrimage shrine in the city lies in a  square mausoleum in the corner of  a large building with a pyramidal ceramic tiled  rooftop and an arched gate opening through a courtyard with a  centred plaster fountain.
