Summary: Through her novel's protagonist ''Lulu'', who was assigned a mission in Marrakech, Diane Johnson depicts some fascinating aspects of the medieval city. When browsing through the book, I was particularly captivated by the immersive description and the abundance of detail.
''A street in Marrakech''
Author: Elizabeth Warnock Fernea
Year of publication:1988
Edition: Waveland press
Number of pages:379
Summary: this book was written in the early 1970's when the author and her family lived in Marrakech. Although a far away story , many places are easily recognisable through the author narration and description, and the staged rituals are akin to those of 40 year ago. The smell of the bread sold on the street is the same as the one that perfumed the city in the dim and distant past. I think that the author did a perfect portrayal of the life in the old medina and subsequently, I have taken many passages as citations for the blog.
